The natural next step to our work, engaging in faithful advocacy, is direct service to our communities in need. We launched our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program eight years ago to walk in solidarity with immigrants in our community. Following the COVID-19 pandemic and rising food insecurity in our hometown of Boston, we launched our Food and Assistance Grab-and-Go program.

Addressing Food Insecurity:  Grab & Go Program  

Residents of Boston, like many other urban centers around the country, have experienced rising food costs and cuts to safety net programs. We recognized this need and have launched an expanded Food Assistance program now operating twice a week from two different churches in Boston’s urban core. Volunteers pack nutritious bagged lunches and distribute them on the streets, and at Emmanuel Church in the City of Boston and from the Basilica of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. During the winter especially, they pass out clothing, including knit hats, gloves, coats, and warm socks, donated by parishioners of nearby Saint Cecilia Parish. At all times, volunteers offer compassion with a smile and a personal touch.
