We are delighted to announce that the Board of Directors of A Faith That Does Justice (AFTDJ) has elected Tom Dwyer to the Board and as AFTDJ’s new President. As a person long involved in social justice since his Jesuit high school days in Detroit, and as an active member in the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) for 30 years, Tom is guided by the principles and values of Catholic Social Teaching. The Board selected Tom because of his belief in Father Peter’s vision of a more just world and his desire to help carry Father Peter’s legacy forward through our mission to put faith into action.

Tom spent his professional career largely in CEO positions as town manager of two different communities, and then at the helm of a large not-for-profit insurance pool and risk management company for municipalities and school districts.  He has also worked as a newspaper reporter for a metropolitan daily, a governmental researcher, and a consultant.

As a volunteer, Tom has served as the National Chair of the SVdP Voice for the Poor Program, its advocacy arm, and has been active with its Neighbors-in-Need program providing direct financial support, guidance, and friendship.  He also volunteered in numerous other capacities, ranging from a tutor in a literacy program to a church marriage preparation facilitator with his wife of 54 years, Mary Dwyer.

Tom and Mary live in Mansfield Massachusetts and have three daughters and six grandchildren. Tom holds an undergraduate degree in English from Boston College and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Hartford.

Welcome to the A Faith That Does Justice family, Tom.
