With plans for the largest deportation operation in the history of the United States now underway, the days ahead will be a defining moment for our country and for all people of faith.
Earlier this month, I, along with two family members and about 5,000 other like-minded citizens, participated in a protest in Sarasota, Florida. United in opposition to the current Administration’s cruel policies, we stood in support of one another and speaking up for those in need. The sign I held was inspired by a quote from Thomas Jefferson: “ WHEN TYRANNY REPLACES JUSTICE, IT IS OUR DUTY TO PROTEST.”
Very simply, Pope Francis will be sorely missed by the poor, the outcast, the strangers, and the marginalized. He will be missed by those who hurt and seek mercy and forgiveness.
The central meaning of “Crawling Back to You,” is found in the two stanzas that tell a story. It describes Tom’s excessive anxiety and worry. A partner keeps assuring him that he’s OK and that he need not be so anxious. Things will turn out fine. “Things will work out for you,” the partner says. “I will be there every step of the way to love and support you.”
But the central question in the Gospel of Mark is: who is Jesus? Mark, the gospel writer, tells the story of Jesus in a way that invites the reader to decide for themselves who Jesus really is. The Confession of Peter reveals one aspect of Jesus’ identity as Messiah, but there’s still more to learn about him.
