As of June 1, 2023, A Faith That Does Justice (AFTDJ) moved its home to Emmanuel Church, 15 Newbury Street, Boston, MA 02116. We have been warmly welcomed by the leadership at Emmanuel Church and even invited to expand our ministries as we establish our program there.
Since arriving, AFTDJ has continued its outreach to recently arrived Spanish speakers with minimal English skills who struggle to find community in their newly adopted city of Boston. We have addressed their isolation by offering a Spanish mass each Saturday at 4:00 pm that is followed by a simple dinner. The result has been a growing sense of community to all those who attend.
We will also continue our Fireside Chats in Emmanuel’s spacious Parish Hall, both in-person and on-line, beginning September 2023. Finally, we anticipate the beginning of an out-reach program to the homeless of the surrounding area in the coming months.
AFTDJ has thrived since its arrival in Boston in 2016. To our surprise, we are in many respects now experiencing a new beginning that will allow us to grow, while maintaining our commitment to raise consciousness about social issues that affect the most vulnerable among us, and to reach out to those in need. Please watch for updates as we continue to settle into our new surroundings and consider accompanying us at Emmanuel Church as we live faith-in-action together.
Your report, “The result has been a growing sense of community to all those who attend,” indicates to me that Emmanuel Church will also sense that same redemptive process as you expand your ministries there. Sounds like a blessed marriage at work! COURAGE!
